The balance between housing and tourism is the key challenge to the governance of global cities. Based on CIAUD-UPT, the research project MetroPoLis aims for Lisbon and Porto sustainable development, beyond their urban centres.

This article examines the relationship between housing and tourism in the metropolitan areas of Lisbon and Porto, considering its impact on urban sustainability.
